Staff (via Paul Kedrosky’s Infectious Greed): The guy who moved the creator of weblogs.com and RSS feeds from Frontier to LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP) just got a love letter… from Dave Winer’s lawyer.

The letter claims Winer gave Rogers Cadenhead a $5,000 deposit in October 2005. The job, according to Winer’s guy: Revisions and maintenance of feeds.scripting.com. Cadenhead describes the job as another LAMP port; this time on Share Your OPML, Winer’s RSS subscription site.

Both sides agree that nothing was signed. Winer’s lawyer claims it was understood… no contract, no job. Cadenhead insists it was another verbal deal, just like before; however, he admits that “the web application has been in limbo because we haven’t been able to reach a written agreement to supercede the verbal one.”

Thus, Winer no longer wishes to use Cadenhead’s services… and he wants his money back.

In addition, Winer wants Cadenhead to kill the website he did build, OPML Factory, at opml.cadenhead.org, because, he claims that it uses Winer’s copyrighted subscriber data and program. Cadenhead responds that Winer makes all that stuff freely available to any and all comers.

Winer’s not the most popular guy on the planet. But if Cadenhead’s smart, he’ll shut up and get an attorney.

Meanwhile, if you want to see the letter for yourself, you’d better hurry. We have a feeling it’s going to be yanked.
